Drill Calc

Field-Tested

Drill Calc is a set of field calculators built around the actual math crews do by hand on site — not a general-purpose calculator with drilling terms bolted on.

Where it started

Drill Calc began as one tool, not a suite: a grout and displacement grout calculator, built to get that one calculation off a spreadsheet and onto something simpler. Once that existed, the case for building the rest of the field math the same way was obvious — so Drill Calc kept growing, one real calculation at a time.

What's in it

Each tool is scoped to one real field task:

  • Rod String and Rod Count — track string length and rod counts as they change through a run
  • Pump Down & Return — circulation and bottoms-up timing
  • String Weight, Hole Volume, and Grout Calc — the calculations crews do before and during a run
  • Water Storage and a Unit Converter for quick field conversions
  • A Run Check calculator, plus a set of purpose-built timers (more on those below)

Standard sizes already built in

Standard rod and pipe sizes are pre-programmed, so calculations that depend on them don't start with looking up a dimension or typing one in from memory — pick the size in use and the calculator already knows it.

Purpose-built timers

The timers aren't a generic stopwatch — each one is built around a specific field measurement:

  • A flow timer that converts a timed volume into litres per minute
  • A Drill Run Timer that breaks a wireline run into its phases — pump down time, drill time, and retrieve time — and converts drill time into mm/min

A standalone tool, not a connected one

Drill Calc uses the same visual design as the rest of BINGS, so it feels familiar to use — but it doesn't talk to Run Book or any other module. It doesn't share sites, roles, or data with the rest of the suite. Open it, run the calculation you need, done — no site setup required.
